Supporting LGBTQIA+ asylum-seeking immigrants with PRIDE

Working towards a world where every LGBTQIA+ asylum seeker is welcomed, supported, and affirmed as their most authentic selves.

Asylum Pride House was founded in 2022 with the mission to provide housing, case management, and necessary initial resources to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in Philadelphia PA.

Asylum Pride House continues to be the only 501(c)3 nonprofit in the country offering a combined, holistic model of comprehensive case management services, transitional housing, legal services, and initial resources exclusively for LGBTQIA+ immigrants.

An ‘asylum seeker’ is a person who is seeking protection in another country because they have experienced persecution or fear they will suffer persecution due to: race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Around the world, over 60 countries criminalize same-sex relationships, and in at least 11 countries it is still punishable by death. For many LGBTQIA+ people living in these regions, the U.S. offers a chance to live more openly than in their home country.
Although “Asylum” is in our name, many of our clients are seeking more than one humanitarian immigration status in addition to their asylum application, often applying for Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and T-Visas (for survivors of trafficking). We have also supported individuals who have been granted asylum as well as family members who came to the US through family reunification and derivative asylum. In a few instances, our team has also worked with LGBTQIA+ refugees.

Our Services

Transitional Housing

We offer no-cost, transitional housing through our five-bedroom group home in Philadelphia PA. This dedicated space for LGBTQIA+ asylum-seeking immigrants exists to provide stability and community as residents await work authorization and prepare for independent living.

Our case management program provides individualized support and guidance through the following areas: Legal, Housing, Physical & Mental Health, Financial Stability, Community Resources, and Social Adjustment. We walk alongside each individual as they navigate their new community.

We connect LGBTQIA+ immigrants with pro bono legal representation through our attorney partner network, while providing direct support with legal screenings, document prep, legal appointment accompaniment, forensic evaluation referrals, and Know Your Rights education.

Resource Distribution

To help newly arrived LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers settle into their new homes with dignity, we provide essential everyday items including food, clothing, furniture, and hygiene products. This immediate relief ensures our clients’ basic needs are met as they begin building their lives in the U.S.
